Durham University Science Fiction and Fantasy Society
Who are we?
We are Durham University’s elite squad of Sci-Fi and Fantasy nerds!
What do we do?
We watch movies and then talk about them! It’s as simple as that. Every week we watch a TV episode and a film, and afterwards we traditionally head to the Parson’s Field JCR, otherwise known as Brooks bar, to have a friendly, if occasionally heated, conversation about what we just saw.
Why do we do it?
We are passionate about all things Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and if you’re like us then you’ll know the feeling of always wanting new people to debate with and bounce ideas off. We want to provide that platform and get people talking all things Sci Fi!
Do we do anything other than watch films and chat?
Yes! Every year we take a cinema trip to the IMAX in Newcastle. Last year we went to see ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, and the other ‘Star Wars’ films in previous years. With the absence of such a film this year, we may need to experiment.
If that wasn’t enough, we also have an extensive library of Science Fiction and Fantasy literature to choose from. We also produce our own magazine, known as the Fanzine, with submissions from you, members of the society!
Last, but most certainly not least, we are proud to host a Convention, known as DurhamCon, every year in the DSU building in Second term. Click on the DurhamCon tab for more information!
